Trauma isn't just about the events that occurred but also about what didn't occur, like emotional support and attunement in childhood. Trauma therapy can assist in uncovering the underlying causes of maladaptive behaviors and negative beliefs about oneself.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing

EMDR therapy assists in the processing of difficult memories and in reducing or eliminating triggers and negative beliefs. It operates on the premise that the mind can recover from emotional wounds just as the body recovers from physical injuries. If a foreign object or repeated injury aggravates the wound, it becomes inflamed and painful. When the obstruction is removed, healing can take place.

During EMDR therapy, the client brings up the difficult memory in brief sequential doses while simultaneously focusing on bilateral stimulation (eye movement or tapping). This process provides access to the neural networks associated with the distressing event allowing for new associations between the event and more adaptive thought patterns and behaviors.

EMDR Intensives

Sometimes traditional talk therapy just doesn’t move fast enough—especially when you're dealing with daily triggers, distressing memories, or stuck emotional patterns. EMDR Intensives offer a focused, accelerated alternative to weekly sessions by condensing trauma processing into a single, extended session or consecutive consecutive sessions.

In weekly therapy, time is often spent on brief check-ins or grounding before and after processing. While these are important, they can take away from the core trauma work. EMDR Intensives minimize these transitions and allow us to dive deeper, with the goal of fully processing a distressing memory or event within one session. For complex PTSD, consecutive extended sessions may be needed.
This approach is especially helpful for:
-
Clients feeling overwhelmed by ongoing trauma symptoms
-
Those seeking faster progress
-
Individuals with limited availability for weekly sessions

What to Expect
EMDR Intensives are emotionally focused and can be powerful. Some clients experience rapid insights and noticeable relief, while others find their progress unfolds more gradually. Both are completely valid. As we work together, we may uncover new themes or related experiences, and we’ll adjust our focus collaboratively to support your healing process.
While I can’t promise specific outcomes, this format has helped many clients make meaningful, lasting breakthroughs.
